Thomas de Ashton
Sir Thomas de Ashton was born in 1403. The family split in twain when his Father, Sir John de Assheton died. Thomas' half-brother Ralph inherited the main family home and the feu due his lord as a Lord of the Manor. Sir Thomas differences himself from his brother via spelling, motto and coat of arms.
Sir Thomas received permission by Henry VI to transmute the precious metals, and on 7 April 1446 a special order was issued, encouraging Asheton and his companion Edmund de Trafford to pursue their experiements in alchemy with impunity.
